The Family Support Services Coordinator is housed within the Family Division Information and Referral Center. The coordinator oversees three clinical professionals who conduct investigations to assist the Court with custody and visitation disputes. The Family Support Services Unit provides trained personnel to investigate and make recommendations in alleged emergencies; assess and refer for psychological and substance evaluations; and make referrals to lawyers, safe visitation programs, and other related resources.
The Family Support Services Coordinator also oversees two domestic violence screeners responsible for assessing the circumstances in domestic violence cases and referring the parties either to in-house or community services.
Domestic Violence cases may be filed in either the District Court of Maryland or the Prince George's County Circuit Court. To file in the District Court in Upper Marlboro, go to room 168B of the Courthouse; for the District Court in Hyattsville go to room 200A of the Hyattsville Justice Center. The District Court accepts filings from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. To file in the Circuit Court, 14701 Governor Bowie Drive, go to room 110Dtween 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. If there is a pending family law case in the Circuit Court, the second hearing regarding the protective order should be heard in Circuit Court.
