On December 4, 2006 Ingrid M. Turner was sworn in to the Prince George’s County Council representing District 4 for her first term.

Council Member Turner is currently Vice Chair of both the County Council’s Health, Education and Human Services Committee and the Public Safety and Fiscal Management Committee. She is a member of the Human Services Policy Committee of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, Governor’s Workforce Investment Board, Maryland Association of Counties Board of Directors and the Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors.

After serving her country for 20 years, Ms. Turner retired as a Commander in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps, United States Navy. Rising to the level of Director, Reserve and Retired Personnel Programs for the Judge Advocate General of the Navy, Ms. Turner managed the 725 reserve component attorneys and paralegals. She also served as the Executive Assistant to the Assistant Deputy Judge Advocate General. As a trailblazer, Ms. Turner is the first African American elected to the District 4, County Council seat.

Ms. Turner has held a variety of leadership roles with both civic and professional organizations. Her accomplishments and dedication have been recognized with many awards and honors to include: Federal Women’s Program Outstanding Women of the Year, International Who’s Who Among American Professional and Business Women/Woman of the Year, Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), Navy Commendation Medal (two awards), and Navy Achievement Medal (three awards). She is also an active member of many organization, including: Iota Gamma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Maryland Bar Association, Prince George’s County Bar Association, and NAACP.

Ms. Turner is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, with an MBA from Golden Gate University and a Juris Doctorate from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law. Additionally, Ms. Turner has completed advanced studies coursework at George Washington University School of Law in the area of healthcare law.
