Andrea C. Harrison was sworn into office to represent District 5 on the Prince George’s County Council on May 19, 2008, following a special election to fill the seat left vacant by the gubernatorial appointment of David C. Harrington to a vacancy in the Maryland State Senate.

Council Member Harrison, the first woman elected to serve District 5 on the County Council, occupies the seat once held by her late father, the Honorable James C. Fletcher. Council Member Harrison is a member of the Council’s Transportation, Housing, and the Environment (THE), and Health, Education, and Human Services (HEHS) committees.

A lifelong resident of District 5, Council Member Harrison has served the residents of Prince George’s County for more than 15 years as a community activist. She attended Prince George’s Community College and earned her undergraduate degree in Public Policy from Bowie State University. Additionally, Council Member Harrison is a graduate of Leadership Prince George’s, and a Fellow in the Academy of Excellence in Governance at the Institute of Governmental Service of the University of Maryland.

The District 5 constituent areas include Bladensburg, Cheverly, Edmonston, Fairmount Heights, Glenarden, Landover, Colmar Manor, Cottage City, Springdale, and portions of Mitchellville.

Council Member Harrison lives in Springdale with her husband Charles, and their sons, Eric and Christian. Their daughter, Nikita Adams, resides in Los Angeles, California.
