Fire Investigations is charged with the responsibility of the determination of origin and cause of fires and explosions, investigation and abatement of all fire and explosives incidents, enforcement of fire safety and explosives
laws, mitigation of explosives hazards, and other emergencies within Prince
George's County as outlined in Subtitle 11 of the Prince George's County
Code. Additionally, a wide-range of collateral duties, such as Honor Guard,
are performed that directly contribute to the success of the overall mission
of the Fire/EMS Department.
Goal
To foster partnerships and strategic alliances, to collaborate on
public safety issues and concerns for the improvement, security, safety,
and protection of the citizens, residents, and visitors of Prince George’s
County; through the utilization of a qualified and specialized workforce
that is committed to quality service, equipped with the information,
technology and physical resources necessary to accomplish this goal.
Bomb Squad
- The enforcement of the fire laws of the State of Maryland
and Prince George's County
- Mitigation of explosive related incidents
- The reduction/elimination of arson and other fire service related
crimes
- The determination of the origin and cause of incidents
involving fire within the County
- Bringing to justice violators of the fire and explosive
laws of the State of Maryland and Prince George's County
Special Events Unit (SEU)
- Provide fire/life safety protection for specialty events and
venues
- Provide multi-jurisdictional services including Bay Bridge Walk,
Joint Services Open House, Iraqi Elections
- Acts as a liaison with County Police Special Events Unit, DPW&T,
Metro, SHA, Redskins event staff and security
